A very large backwater slough near Grafton, Il but across the Illinois River heading to Brussel's Illinois. Refuge for Bald Eagles, White Pelicans, and of course one the largest winter gathering spots of Trumpeter Swans in the region. This is right on the confluence of the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers.

The second picture in my set titled “Surviving Captivity”. I do not know her name, but I am calling her Margot, after Dame Margot Fonteyn de Arias.
When Johannesburg celebrated its 70 birthday in 1956, Margot Fonteyn danced Swan Lake with the Lake as a backdrop as part of the celebrations. Johannesburg Zoo is very close to Zoo Lake.

Il Lago dei cigni più dinamico, euforico e abbagliante finalmente per la prima volta in Italia.
Swan Lake reloaded, fin dal suo debutto a Stoccolma nel dicembre 2011, è diventato un fenomeno di straordinario successo sia per il pubblico che per la critica.
Grazie al perfetto e originale mash up di musica, danza e design, lo spettacolo continua a registrare sold-out nei principali teatri di tutta Europa (The Coliseum, Londra – Casino de Paris, Parigi – Admiralspalast, Berlino – Maaghalle, Zurigo, solo per citarne alcuni) e il 17 marzo 2014 debutta per la prima volta in Italia al Teatro degli Arcimboldi di Milano.
Swan Lake, la versione Reloaded di Rydman.
Ovvero: come da un negozio fetish di Londra si può trarre ispirazione per un’opera d’arte.
“Stavo dando un'occhiata a Camden Market e ho visto queste gonne di pelle nera con nappe intrecciate”, racconta Rydman. “La cosa strana è che mi hanno ricordato dei cigni scuri e ho pensato: e se i cigni ne Il lago dei cigni fossero prostitute drogate e il cattivo Rothbart il loro protettore? Ero totalmente rapito dall'idea che ho verificato subito su Google se qualcuno avesse già riflettuto su questa interpretazione”.
Nessuno lo aveva fatto.
Čajkovskij a passo di street dance.
La commistione tra stili di danza apparentemente agli antipodi fra loro, street dance e danza classica, si ritrova anche nella scelta delle musiche. Per questa produzione, infatti, Rydman ha utilizzato, insieme alle musiche originali di Čajkovskij, brani composti ad hoc da musicisti pop e rock svedesi e internazionali. L’intuizione del coreografo svedese si è rivelata vincente. Rydman, membro e fondatore della compagnia svedese di danza Bounce, vede nel successo dello show la conferma che la street dance può finalmente essere considerata uno stile di danza a tutti gli effetti, in grado di attirare e soddisfare un pubblico sempre più vasto.

It was Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake playing at the Alexandrinsky theatre on August 30th. I'm not an expert but I would say that it was an excellent performance. We had good seats in the parterre and Huguette and I both enjoyed the music and the choreography very much. We weren't supposed to take pictures, but I took this one – the only one! – near the end of the performance just to have a record of what the stage looked like.

A trip to Russia is not complete without attending a ballet performance. We waited until we got to St. Petersburg to do that. This was chosen for us, but it was a good choice as we saw Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake at the Alexandrinsky theatre.
The Alexandrinsky also known as the Russian State Pushkin Academy Drama Theatre is one of the top three ballet stages in Russia. It would have been nice to attend a performance at the number one spot, the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, or at the number two, the Mariinsky in St. Petersburg, but this was not to be. Instead we went to the Alexandrinsky Theater, which is a magnificent example of classic mid-18th century Russian architecture dominated by a majestic six-column colonnade on its main façade (seen here). The theater is named after Empress Consort Alexandra Feodorovna, wife of Tsar Nicholas I and mother of Tsar Alexander II. Like the Bolshoi and Mariisky theatres, the Alexandrinski hosts its own ballet company. It also hosts a famous drama troupe.

An owl in broad daylight really close to the trail at Swan Lake = a shot I never thought I'd be able to get. I somehow resisted the urge to go over and pet (and/or steal) it.
